Getting used to the Menus is undoubtedly the best way to introduce yourself to a program. Once you become more proficent, you will find yourself using the Palettes and Keyboard Shortcuts to save yourself time and streamline your workflow. That said, exploring the menu items will give you an overall 'feel' for the program as it groups related commands in a logical order.
